Atlanta Flood Relief Continues…

01Oct09

The waters have receded but the real work is just getting started. All I can really say is WOW – it’s amazing (and heartwarming) to see the way people are continuing to give and help out the victims of the “Flood of 2009” as WSB-TV is so unpoetically calling it. I’m sorry I’ve been a little slack in keeping up with this; I’ll try to do better in the coming days. Here are some upcoming ways to help your neighbors and fellow Atlanta folk recover from the damage done by the floods:

(via @skybox on Twitter) To help flooded farmers, Rosebud (in VaHi) is donating 15% of proceeds to a relief fund Oct 5-11. Spread the word – and order extra dessert. Count me in – I’ve been dying to try this place!

HopeATL is a new website dedicated to the cause – I think it’s Courageous Church, but I may be wrong. They’re also on Twitter: @HopeATL . Publix is having one of their Stock Up Sales – it’s the perfect way to pick up a bunch of the urgently needed items while staying within your own budget.

Hosea Feed The Hungry continues to DoGood for Atlanta. I’ve seen them partner with a number of radio stations to do a couple of (very successful) monetary drives in the last week or so. Stay tuned…

Atlanta Tool Bank is accepting donations of gently-used tools to help in the recovery relief. By the way, have you ever volunteered with them? They’re fabulous!

Dial 2-1-1 for the United Way; they’ve got listing upon listing on how you can contribute and/or help

When you run in to Kroger this weekend for milk, bread, eggs, and Cheetos, be sure to say “yes” when they ask if you want to round up to the nearest dollar. They’ve teamed up with the Salvation Army to donate funds raised to the flood relief effort. Remember: a little bit will probably mean a lot to someone.

I know I kinda panned them at the beginning of this entry, but I have to give WSB-TV some props. WSB and CBS46 are the only two broadcast news outfits in town that have ways to help with Atlanta flood relief as an easy to find area on their homepages. WSB’s is on their homepage, right side, a little less than halfway down. CBS46’s is a link: http://www.cbsatlanta.com/news/21105006/detail.html (it’s a running list, so some of the info is a tiny bit out of date).
